Activities & Attractions
The West Kootenay and Columbia area is a mecca for outdoor recreation opportunities. The region is blanketed by large wilderness parks including Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks, Valhalla, Goat Range, Kokanee Glacier and Monashee Provincial Parks. All of these parks have extensive trail networks suitable for day and multi-day hikes.
The area is also a hive of internationally renowned mountain bike trails such as Keystone-Standard Basin and Frisbee Ridge. Their offerings of sub-alpine long distance riding and bonus mountain vistas are hard to beat. Great sport fishing opportunities abound on the numerous lakes and waterways for a variety of fish species including trout and kokanee salmon.
Water sports such as power boating, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, and beach activities are present throughout the region. The abundance of natural rock walls provide hundreds of sport climbs in the area (Begbie Bluffs, Shake Town, Water World). To unwind from your action-packed day, take a soak in one of the nearby natural hot springs – a sure way to rest and rejuvenate.
